About
Born at the foot of the Sussex South Downs, Katie spent as much time as she could walking these forests and rolling chalk hills. The influence of the landscape has been a life long one, and since moving to Mid-Wales in 2016 this has only increased in its ferocity. The landscape is indivisible from her practice and serves as a constant source of inspiration and a way to connect with others through her art. Since graduating from her BA with a First Class degree and her MA with a Distinction, Katie has now moved back to her home in Sussex where she continues to explore her relationship to the differing landscapes through the medium of analogue photography.

Katie's work often leans toward the ethereal and dark, with influences from movements such as Dada and the principle of Wabi Sabi. She tends toward the hand-crafted photography through the use of pinhole lenses and more recently hand-coated dry plates in a 4x5 format. This combination of format, lens, and photosensitive material is not one that on the surface is obvious, but rather than shying away from the imperfections of dry plate and pinhole, Katie has embraced these as visual storytelling devices within her work.
